5th Kup – Blue Tag
Blue Tag is the step between Green Belt and Blue Belt. Students continue to improve precision, power, and sparring ability while learning more complex movements and combinations. Emphasis is placed on applying sound technique with controlled aggression and disciplined footwork.
Belt Meaning
Blue: Signifies the sky towards which the plant grows into a towering tree as training in Taekwon‑Do progresses.
Grading Requirements
- Pattern: Yul‑Gok – 38 movements
- 2-Step Sparring (Ibo Matsogi)
- Free Sparring (Jayu Matsogi)
- Side Kick – left and right
- Reverse Turning Kick – left and right
- Board Breaking: All four kicks listed above and a hand technique of your choice – break if over 18, measure if under
- Theory Questions
- Minimum time since last grading: 3 months
Theory & Terminology
- Ibo Matsogi – 2-Step Sparring
- Jayu Matsogi – Free Sparring
- Yop Chagi – Side Kick
- Bandae Dollyo Chagi – Reverse Turning Kick
- Yul‑Gok: The pseudonym of the great Korean philosopher Yi I (1536–1584), known as the "Confucius of Korea." The 38 movements refer to his birthplace on the 38th parallel and represent the scholar.

All kicks must show precision, chamber, and retraction. Sparring should demonstrate tactical movement, awareness, and appropriate power. Students are expected to know all terminology and respond clearly when asked.
